After their last attempt, the Artega GT based B6 Venator, I thought it was finally done with Spyker. Boy was I wrong. There in Geneva with a completely new thing. The Preliator. Sounds like... Well whatever. Can’t wait to see it. I’m sure it will never see the light of day though...

Used to use a Preliator, but it made the coffee bitter - went to a French press and never looked back.

Their silly name game is ridiculous.

I’m still holding my breath for Wiesmann’s future ... hope they do better.

I love their interiors. But I’m afraid they’ll need more than luck to ever actually produce another car.

I thought they did buy Saab, decided it was a bad move, and sold it to the current Chinese owners.

Does Spyker get its names from Dr. Doofenschmirtz?

Not almost, they bought it from GM. Because if a billion dollar company can’t make a brand profitable, a small Dutch sportscar manufacturer barely surviving sure can. Sigh...

Kinja'd!!!0

That’s my main problem with ‘m: They’re pretty “shadowy” on that part. So probably none of the Venators were built. I’ve read a Dutch blog somewhere in which people were claiming the official productionnumbers to be false and they had pretty fine arguments for that. The official 2010-numbers are still “pending” (2011 they made 12 cars in total, 2012 just 2 and these were the last as far as I know).

It’s hard to get the truth when they’re so shadowy about it.

Preliator is a good name, though. In a ridiculous Spyker way. I always liked visiting the Spyker display at the L.A. Auto Show. It was usually tucked away in some corner or basement where you’d stumble across it while looking for a bathroom. Suddenly there’d be this spectacular looking car and you’d think, “what’s that doing here?” and then, “oh, it’s those guys again.”

Kinja'd!!!1

The first years were great. I really liked the way they put themselves in the market, lots of vintage feel to it. Then all hell broke loose. Taking over an incompetent F1 team. Trying to save Saab. What on earth were they thinking. WHAT ON EARTH ARE THEY THINKING?

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
02/11/2016 at 03:21

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, they had a cool little niche image of steampunk sportscars. A Dutch Morgan, but more upscale. But, there wasn’t much of a reputation to build on, yet. So, they tried to get one by pulling it out of their ass. No one seemed able to take them seriously and they gave no reason to. Well, I hope the Preliator puts them back on the map even though it won’t.

Kinja'd!!!1

Certainly as exclusive. And a reputation of a brand that made it’s last car in the 1920's. But was quite innovative as it’s 60HP racer was the world’s first 4wd car with a single engine. And four brakes. And 6 cylinders. But that’s almost 100 years ago. For a reason. Getting bankrupt and back in business is certainly tradition as well as the original company went bankrupt 3 times before finally killing the brand in the end.

02/12/2016 at 01:16

Kinja'd!!!1

Huh. That’s interesting. I didn’t know that about the original Spykers. I also your king and queen’s coach is a Spyker. Now I understand that the Kini was part of a long tradition. Perhaps that was part of new Spyker’s problems. They didn’t give the royal family a car.

Kinja'd!!!1

Yes, our Royals love transportation. Our current king and his grandfather (Bernhard, a true playboy) both know their ways behind the stick/wheel of an airplane as well. And the royals know how to sail as well with their “Groene Draeck”. Of course. Not giving them free transportation will kill a company. In the end.

There has to be a “This could’ve been us but you playin’” meme around somewhere for Victor Muller and his inexplicable hubris/naivety, leading to Spyker’s downfall. The C8 was so gorgeous inside and out. That exposed shift linkage! That beautiful (and non-compliant) propellor steering wheel! Ugh.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > philipilihp
02/12/2016 at 10:41

Kinja'd!!!0

It’s interior was epic. Simply epic. That steering wheel was no problem over here, it had 4-way seat belts. It’s financial instability is part of the heritage. Spyker of the “Gouden koets” failed for bankruptcy three times IIRC.

Kinja'd!!! philipilihp > Jobjoris
02/12/2016 at 10:47

How financially irresponsible is it to obtain a not-even-close-to-being-average Formula 1 team? Or buying a car-company the general himself with it’s billion dollars development programs couldn’t save? Nuts. Totally nuts.

Your Royals? Who are they? There’s no kings and queens in America? Well, besides that elite-neighborhood in NY that is.

The king actually has a job. A ceremonial one (visiting other countries still impressed with the fact we have a king, opening museums). And, once in 4 years, telling which political parties need to go talk to each other to form a Cabinet.

Kinja'd!!!1

Haha, Kanye West? I just heard he begged at Marc Zuckerberg’s for some cash to cover his $53 million debt?

It is fun. He lives totally isolated though, not sure if I’d opt for that. Fun thing is people complain for him not paying taxes. Who do you think pays his salary in the first place? ;-)

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
02/18/2016 at 14:52

Kinja'd!!!1

I think he asked him for a billion dollar investment in all things Kanye. Only royalty would be so bold. How did that guy get so in debt anyway? I like to spend money, but 53 million would take me a lifetime.

I guess if that’s been his life forever, he’s used to it, but it does sound like a lonely life. That is funny about paying taxes. He probably does pay taxes on some things, just not his income. You have sales tax, right?

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
02/19/2016 at 06:06

Kinja'd!!!1

It might have to do with his plans to dominate the world of fashion. Everything he touches changes in gold. I really have nothing with your royal. 53 million I could spend in a lifetime, probably even within the decade!

Oh, he’s not lonely. Or rather: was. He did just go to University (History) and we know him by the name of “Prince Pilsner” because of the vast amount of pictures of him with beer and his fellow classmates. But I’m sure nowadays it’s not that easy anymore. The world has changed. Dramatically.

We have VAT.

Doesn’t his wife have enough money to cover his debts? That’s a rich family. I do suppose there are enough cars I like to spend 53 mil. Plus gold chains. If I was rich, I’d wear lots of gold chains like Mr. T.

I see his wife is Latina. That sounds like fun. I imagine his life is a lot different nowadays. Do they live in a real castle?

She does, but she won’t. Hahaha. That was actually news on of the “news”-sites I read. I knew there was some reason to adore Kim. Especially in that dirndl. Those golden chains will kill your back. In the end. Mr. T. stopped wearing them for a reason. Or did he?

Yes. Our Queen. Daughter of a sidekick of Videla. Her dad wasn’t invited for the wedding for this. Really. They live on an estate. This is their main-house:

I guess that Kardashian fortune is closely guarded. Good for them. They’re Armenian like my neighbors. At one point there was a rumor that Kim was going to run for mayor of my town. But, we actually don’t elect the mayor. We vote for city council and they decide who the mayor is because he or she doesn’t really have any special power except to show up when they finishing remodeling the library.

That looks like a nice estate. Not too ostentatious. Why didn’t they invite her father?

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
02/23/2016 at 15:40

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, the elected mayor. We still don’t have this but our mayors actually have an important role. Both managing city-hall and the one politically speaking above all parties. Chairman of the board. Checking if all decisions are done properly, legal and democratic. And opening that library.

We Dutch always try to be political correct. To the max (Maxima!). So when word got out that dad Zorreguita was a minister in the Videla regime (responsible for many deaths/disappearances) all hell broke loose. He would never set foot over here for official events. We can’t blame Max for what her dad did so I found it a bit exaggerated.

Most of our mayors are elected with varying degrees of power like that. But, some towns just go with a council. We had a notorious town council near here where they pretty much treated their town’s coffers like their own bank account.

Ah, that’s interesting. That would probably cause controversy here, too. That was a terrible period in Argentina. Is she well accepted, though?

Is she well accepted? With looks like these:

Kinja'd!!!

Who wouldn’t???? Max is a gem. She’ll always try to speak Dutch although that’s a real hard language to learn for a foreigner. Smart girl, our own Queen of hearts . And I really hated our government for denying her father not to attend the wedding. Either put out an international arrest warrant for the guy or leave him alone and do not interfere with stuff that happened way back in another country for which there’s no actual proof the guy had anything to do with other than “We’re sure he knew”. And try not to punish his kid for this in the process. INSANE!

Looking for the above picture I ran into another interesting one:

Hey! Look at that! When is that photo from? There must be other pictures from then. And, what’s that model back there? She really is gorgeous. It’s nice that she seems to have embraced her position. So, has he never even been to The Netherlands? Does she travel back to Argentina?

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee

Kinja'd!!!1

The picture is from a pre-wedding party at Madurodam . I’m not sure what that model (I presume you mean the “dark royal” in the back) is about. Madurodam was founded by the Maduro family, a wealthy family from Curacao (or Aruba) so maybe that’s the link.

That’s the point: He’s been here several times, of course. He has three grandchildren, you can’t deny him wanting to visit them. He’s just not allowed to show up at “official events”. Although I believe he was at the King’s day festivities last year. Nuts.

What’s a “dark royal?” Maybe the little car drives on those little streets. That place looks cool. Is it for tourists who are only there for a couple days? It’s good to know you guys still wear those wooden shoes.

Yeah, it seems a bit bigger but that’s the only reasonable explanation. And those taillights are pretty alike. The Nubian Pricess is probably from Suriname, or Curacau. Due to the Maduro-connection.

Krista hates Crocs. Don’t wear ‘m if you’re coming over. Highly popular amongst medical staff.

I’d be surprised if they’d even sell 1. The overly use of NACA ducts is pathetic. That rear... And with that kind of money I can get a new 911S and add a 993, 964 to my collection. And that Alpine. And still have money to get Krista a Macan or something. They simply did not smoke enough weed.
